South Windsor, CT: O,R&L Construction participated as Design Builder at the Grand Opening for the new Hartford Hospital Family Health Center at 1559 Sullivan Avenue in South Windsor, CT on September 28th.   The Grand Opening was a family event to introduce the new health center to the community. Jeffrey Flaks, Hartford Hospital’s CEO, Dr. Kent Stahl, CEO of Hartford Healthcare Medical Group and Thomas Delnicki, South Windsor’s mayor, presented the new center to the community and lead the ribbon cutting ceremony. The Center’s physicians and other staff members also took part in the ribbon cutting. O,R&L was the design builder for this 16,000 square foot two story, medical office building, which is a LEED registered project.

This new medical office building was designed, constructed and will be maintained sustainably. Through strict specifications and documentation this building respects the site and the community, reduces energy and water use, incorporates certified, regional and recycled materials and maintains healthy indoor air quality.

The Hartford Hospital Family Health Center provides primary and urgent care to all ages, seven days a week. This is the first environmentally friendly building for Hartford Hospital, which will set the standard for future buildings. The building is also one of the first LEED registered medical centers in the state of Connecticut.

Norwich, CT: O,R&L Construction participated as Construction Manager at the groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion and renovations at The Edward & Mary Lord Family Health Center/ United Community and Family Services at 47 Town Street in Norwich, CT on August 14th. The groundbreaking ceremony consisted of a presentation on the community outreach that UCFS participates in and a ceremonial breaking of a wall in the adjoining retail space to be expanded into. Edward and Mary Lord and mayor of Norwich Peter Nystrom were honored at the ceremony with the role of helping to break the wall. O,R&L is renovating 25,000 sq. ft of existing space and a 6,500 sq. ft 2 story addition. This will allow for new waiting rooms, exam rooms, new offices and a new entrance increasing healthcare access by 47%.

Guest speakers were UCFS CEO Chuck Seeman; Pamela Kinder, Vice President of Marketing and Facilities for UCFS; Janette Edwards, manager of community benefits at the William W. Backus Hospital and Evelyn Barnum, CEO of the Community Health Center Association of Connecticut. Deb Kievits of Norwich was honored as one of the Health Center Superheroes by the Community Health Center Association of Connecticut.

UCFS is a non-profit Community Health Center offering services to the insured, underinsured and uninsured.

Windsor, CT O,R&L Construction as Design Builder recently completed the new medical office space fit-out for Community Health Services, Inc. in Windsor, CT. The Windsor location is a 3700 SF health clinic with convenient highway access that provides health services to the Windsor community.

The new Community Health Services project included integrated design and budgeting for a clinical medical space including exam, clinical support and administrative space. Renovation incorporated a complete demolition of existing space, new MEP systems and a detailed medical fit-out. Early involvement allowed O,R&L to assist in programming for this small footprint, resulting in a cost-effective, aesthetically-pleasing environment with efficient flow throughout the new space.      

A ribbon-cutting event was held in celebration of the completion of this new facility. In attendance were Congressman John B. Larson and Senator Richard Blumenthal, who both spoke on the need and relevance of healthcare services to the community for this federally-qualified health center.
